table mountain cable car

Our Mountain:

Enjoy a bird’s eye view of the Mother City and beyond with a ten-minute cable-car trip up Table Mountain. This table-shaped sandstone plateau is 1085 meters high and three kilometers wide. For short spells it can be hidden by a cloud, locally referred to as ‘the tablecloth’.Regardless of the splendors to be seen from the top, the journey is spectacular in its own right. The old cable car was replaced in 1997 with a modern Swiss-made version which has the added bonus of a rotating floor.

It may sound alarming, but it simply ensures that travelers get a 360° view on the way up and down. At the top, a dozen viewing spots give the best panoramas over the city, the bay, the legendary Cape of Good Hope and the point where Atlantic and Pacific Oceans meet. For those more adventurous, there are facilities for climbing or simply rambling through a national park that includes hundreds of impressive animal and plant species.
